    Michael, I could not agree with you more. With parenting there is not a "one size fits all" solution but as you say there are a few basic principles that apply to everyone. The need for attention and power and control are among the most powerful. I think that is often why books can't address everything because every family situation is unique and bad behavior often has nothing to do with the child but everything to do with what's happening within the family.
